// ST. ANN BARTLETT · A PARISH PLAN
33 Months to Debt-Free Glory
$550,000 of parish debt. 100 parishioners. One square each, about $38 a week, for 33 months. Together, St. Ann can be debt-free.
// THE BIG IDEA
One debt. One hundred people. One square each.
St. Ann Bartlett carries $550,000 in debt. That number feels enormous when one parish tries to carry it alone. But split across 100 committed parishioners, each person is only carrying one one-hundredth of it, about $5,500 over almost three years.
Picture a 10 × 10 grid of 100 squares. Every square has a weekly amount written in it. When one person claims each square and gives that amount every week for 33 months, the debt is paid in full.
About $5.50 a day, less than a fast-food lunch. No one is asked to carry it all. Everyone is asked to carry a little, faithfully, every week.
// THE SIMPLE MATH
Three steps, no calculator needed
Here is exactly where the weekly number comes from.
Not everyone can give the same amount, so the grid uses ten giving levels, from $12 a week to $75 a week. The levels average out to the same goal. We rounded each one up to a whole dollar, so a full grid actually raises $556,270, a small cushion of about $6,000 above the debt.
// THE GRID
100 squares, 10 giving levels
Each row of 10 squares has its own weekly amount. Row 1 starts at $12 a week, and Row 10 is $75 a week. Find the row that fits your household, then claim an open square in it.
Each square shows its number and its weekly gift. Darker squares are higher giving levels.
| Row | Weekly | About monthly | Each person, 33 months | Row total weekly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Row 1 (#1–10) | $12 | $52 | $1,716 | $120 |
| Row 2 (#11–20) | $18 | $78 | $2,574 | $180 |
| Row 3 (#21–30) | $24 | $104 | $3,432 | $240 |
| Row 4 (#31–40) | $30 | $130 | $4,290 | $300 |
| Row 5 (#41–50) | $35 | $152 | $5,005 | $350 |
| Row 6 (#51–60) | $40 | $173 | $5,720 | $400 |
| Row 7 (#61–70) | $45 | $195 | $6,435 | $450 |
| Row 8 (#71–80) | $52 | $225 | $7,436 | $520 |
| Row 9 (#81–90) | $58 | $251 | $8,294 | $580 |
| Row 10 (#91–100) | $75 | $325 | $10,725 | $750 |
| All 100 squares | ~$38.90 avg | $16,857 | $556,270 | $3,890 |
// HOW IT WORKS
Six simple steps
Anyone in the parish can take part. Here’s the whole process from start to finish.
Pick your row
Look at the grid and choose the weekly amount that fits your budget, from $12 to $75.
Claim your square
Sign up with your name. One square per person or household, and the square is yours for all 33 months.
Set up a weekly gift
Set up an automatic weekly gift to St. Ann, designated for the Debt-Free Glory fund. Set it once and you’re done.
We fill the grid
As squares are claimed, the grid fills in. Once all 100 are taken, the parish is fully on track.
Watch the progress
Every month, the parish shares how many squares are filled, how much has been paid, and what’s left.
Celebrate together
At the end of 33 months, the last payment is made, and St. Ann celebrates being debt-free.
// KEEPING IT ON TRACK
A plan built to last 33 months
Life happens. Over almost three years, some people will move, change jobs, or need to step back. That’s expected, and no one should feel guilty. A waitlist of extra parishioners stands ready to take over any open square, so the grid stays full.
Extra squares speed things up. If more than 100 people want to join, or someone wants to take a second square, every extra dollar goes to the debt and shortens the timeline.
Open books. Monthly updates show squares filled, total received, and the remaining balance, so everyone can see the progress.
// QUESTIONS
Common questions
Why 100 people?
It spreads the load. Each person carries 1% of the debt, about $5,500 over 33 months, instead of a few families carrying all of it.
Why weekly instead of monthly?
Weekly gifts match how most people are paid and how we already give at Mass. Smaller, steady amounts are easier to keep up.
Can a family or small group share a square?
Yes. A household, a ministry, or a group of friends can split one square. A business or a generous family can also take more than one.
What if I need to stop?
Just let us know. Someone from the waitlist will take over your square. Whatever you gave still counts toward the goal.
What if the debt carries interest?
The rounded grid already includes a small cushion. If interest adds more, we can fill extra squares or extend a few weeks, and we’ll report it openly.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Gifts to the parish are generally tax-deductible, and you’ll receive a giving statement. Check with your tax advisor about your own situation.
